Chili Relleno Burrito Recipe

Having just spent a month back in California (home of the cheap, delicious, and massive burrito), I’m now finding myself in the tricky position of craving a burrito in London. Typically, I’d just eat something else. Job done. But, on tail end of my trip I discovered the joy of the chili relleno burrito. And not only that, but I became a convert to the wet burrito as well. So now I just can’t think of anything else. Burrito joints in England are not uncommon, but while investing £10 on an average-at-best burrito might temporarily satisfy my burrito-lust, I’m much more of a ‘DIY’ and ‘do it properly’ person. Deus Customs

Aussie based Deus Ex Machina* makes custom surfboards and British style 1950′s inspired cafe racer’s. It looks great. Can I have a free motorbike now?

*Pronounced “day-us ex mack-ena” – meaning “god from the machine.”

East End Snowscene

Not exactly a winter wonderland, but winter finally hit the UK. Above is Broadway Market, Regents Canal, a VW camper, a restaurant patio, London Fields in the snow, Letters by Ben Eine, original Austin FX4 London taxi and the Albion (if you want a pint and some football, you could do a lot worse)

2011 Branding Roundup

Something happened this past year in design, and I’m a fan. Maybe it has something to do with all of the gloom of a poor worldwide economy, or the realization that our own influx of once-upon-a-time-youth, Japanese-video-game-culture influenced demographic are suddenly a legitimate wave of new consumers. However it shakes out, the trend in branding in 2011 seemed to be bold, colorful, sleek, simple design. Either way, I’ve been banging on about the joys of using color as a branding tool, and I’m quite pleased to see that it’s happening in all industries; from insurance, to laundry detergent, to the olympics, and so forth. My personal favorite from 2011 though has to be the São Paulo logo, which has all of the energy of a great brand and absolutely none of the logic or cleverness.

Home

How small of all that human hearts endure,
That part which laws or kings can cause or cure!
Still to ourselves in every place consigned,
Our own felicity we make or find.
With secret course, which no loud storms annoy,
Glides the smooth current of domestic joy.
